Innsbruck, September 2006

Tarja Porkka-Heiskanen gave an informative presentation on the support provided by the European Union for women in science including the promotion of participation in Framework Programme activities and ensuring that the gender dimension is properly addressed in EU-funded research content. Female attendees were encouraged to apply for the funding available from the EU, including career development grants for women returning to work after having children or returning to Europe after a period working elsewhere. Teresa Paiva (Hospital de Santa Maria, Portugal) spoke on her experience of balancing a career in science and family and Tracey Sletten (University of Surrey, UK) presented on her thoughts and expectations on this issue as an early stage researcher.
