Laboratory Description We are a young enthusiastic research sleep laboratory but with expertise in training in the field of Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine, with principal focus on Neuropsicopharmacology.
Our sleep unit is provided with two independent private bedrooms and 26 bedded ward.
There is trained specialized staff (physicians, psychologists, engineer, statisticien, pharmacists and nurses) with expertise to perform clinical trials from conception through to completion, including all aspects of trial design, recruitment management and data analysis according to the ethical principles and diagnostic standards. Sleep evaluations include different neurophysiological recordings (EEG, PSG, MSLT, MWT, actigraphy and pupillometry) as well as specific sleep scales and questionnaires. Psychometric and performance tests are regularly used. Longterm sleep studies are performed, including sleep deprivation protocols under continuous supervision. Within the unit, all logistic support facilities, including blood sample hadling are present.

Technical Capabilities and areas of expertise Our sleep laboratory develops Clinical Investigation activity mainly in two fields: as a Business Unit, conducting Phase I-III Sleep Clinical Trials, and as Basic Sleep Research, particulary in the evaluation of drug effects on the Central Nervous System in both awake and asleep states. Besides research activity, it works as a Clinical Sleep Disorders Unit, with sleep disorders specialist visits, screening tests and control treatment. Sleep Unit is working with all Medical clinical specialties from the hospital not only clinically concerning sleep disorders, but also assessing the effects on sleep of any medical intervention (drug or technology), its relation on the improvement or worsening of the based disease and its impact on quality of life.

Main areas of expertise are psychopharmacology, psychiatric and insomnia sleep research, with special expertise in clinical trials on antidepressants, hypnotics and antipsychotics, cognitive performance, study of circadian rhythms in Intensive Care Unit, Sleep and ageing in Women and analysis of the EEG signal.
